Think Tank Thursdays
THINK TANK THURSDAYS
Are you curious as to how we stay original with our new designs? Ever wondered how we name our new designs? Want to know what inspires Team Decoflora?
The answer to these questions is both simple and extremely complex. A: Everything!
THINK TANK THURSDAYS START WITH A CUPPA
There is nothing like a brew to get the creative juices flowing. Some say the comfort of a cup of tea is derived from it's warming properties and others from sheer nostalgia but did you know there is scientific fact behind it's ability to problem solve? The amino acid L-theanine, in particular, has been shown to directly affect areas of the brain that control attention and the ability to solve complex problems.
Good job we have a master tea maker in our midst :) Beth F. aka Kathy Lass is the best tea girl EVER! Her time working in a local cafe was not wasted.
PS forget Kirsty's sweeteners at your own risk! She is already sweet enough but .......
WE TAKE IT IN TURNS TO CHAIR EACH MEETING
A different member of the Decoflora Designs Team leads each meeting. We all have a floristy background but very different design styles. Allowing everyone to explore their individuality allows us to create a well rounded collection that offers something for every potential customer. Whether your style is modern and contemporary or traditional and classic, boho or Scandi or anything in between we are confident we will have a design to suit your home interior.
OUR INSPRIATION
Sometimes the start point may be as simple as the colour scheme of an order picked for our original website Silk Flowers Decoflora but often it can be a photo on socials, a place visited, a book read, fashion or something from nature. We live for flowers and we are always on the look out for new trends and fresh colour combinations. Inspiration can be drawn from some weird and wonderful places when you have a creative mind.
WHERE WILL THE NEW DESIGN SIT IN OUR COLLECTION?
The inspiration often dictates what we will create and where it will sit in our collection. An image of a vase filled with fresh flowers from an Instagram post will naturally gravitate towards an artificial flower bouquet or faux flower arrangement but if the inspiration is a 'new' colour scheme we will look at what we currently offer in each category eg bouquets, arrangements, wreaths etc and we may create something for all 3 categories or decide we already offer enough bouquets in the prominent colour and decide to create a wreath as a test with bouquets and arrangements to follow if it proves to popular.
INGREDIENTS
The quality of the ingredients for each design is our most important consideration. We want this website to offer flowers for the home that will confuse and charm all who see them. We want you to enjoy them unapologetically and we hope you will delight in telling your guests they are not real and watch the looks of disbelief on their shocked faces.
We also consider texture, size, composition, colour and focus.
NAMING THE NEW CREATION
Once we have collectively decided on the flowers and foliage to be used the meeting leader will be tasked with creating the bouquet, arrangement and/or wreath together with a mood board of all the various inspirations discussed at the previous meeting. Claire will take informal minutes of every meeting to be used as their guide.
The moodboard and wreath above were created by Chloe. Her inspiration had been a customer order (see photo 3) and our discussions about what sort of vibes we were getting from the stems in front of us ie country kitchen, homemade jam, Lakeland sunset (colours), just picked fruit led, Mr McGregor's garden. We followed up this with a game of word association and after much fun and many laughs (we can always rely on Rod for a one-liner or two) the Beatrix wreath was born.
